Explanation: Using many different software packages can make it necessary to change resolution and/or color depths within Windows frequently. By default, this requires that Windows be rebooted to enable the new screen settings, which is inconvenient and often quite annoying.

Diagnosis: For a long time, rebooting to change screen settings was just a matter of life with Windows. Windows 95 has the ability to change resolutions or color depths without a reboot, but generally this requires the use of a special utility designed for the function. Windows 95 OEM SR2 (Windows 95b) supports this feature natively. Note that some software may malfunction if the color or resolution settings are changed while it is active, because they may not have been written to anticipate such a change.
