Troubleshooting the Motherboard and System Devices

This section of the Troubleshooting Expert focuses on problems related to the motherboard and system devices. This includes the components of the motherboard, along with system devices such as the cache and I/O buses, the BIOS and CMOS memory, system resources, and features such as Plug and Play.

When you suspect a motherboard problem, make sure to very carefully double or even triple-check your cable connections, BIOS settings, and jumpers. A large percentage of what appear to be failed motherboards are actually just misconfigured hardware. It is in your best interest to avoid having to swap a new motherboard so it pays to try the easy fixes before calling for RMA numbers.
