Troubleshooting Peripheral I/O Ports

This section discusses troubleshooting of peripheral I/O ports on the PC. This includes of course serial and parallel I/O port connections. There aren't a lot of different things that can go wrong with these ports, so this section is quite brief.

Bear in mind that a problem with a serial or parallel device can generally be either the port (in the system) or the device itself. The scope of this section does not include attempting to diagnose or troubleshoot every type of device that can connect to a PC. It is best to make sure you are using devices known to work properly (by testing them on another PC). If you have a specific serial or parallel device that needs troubleshooting, you may want to try the device's manufacturer.
