I dropped a screw or other component into the case and now I can't find it anywhere
Explanation: You have dropped a screw or another component into the case.
Diagnosis: This usually happens by working over the open case. It can also be the
result of using incorrect tools.
Warning: If the system is
on, turn it off, unplug it, and do not operate the system until you find whatever you
dropped. Any metal components dropped into the PC could potentially short out part of
the motherboard or other components and seriously damage your system.
Recommendation:
- If you cannot find the screw, consider tipping the machine and shaking gently. You must
find whatever was dropped.
- Make sure you keep the cover on the PC except when actively working on it.
- In the future, try to avoid working over the top of the PC. Use a magnetic screwdriver;
it makes it much easier to attach screws without dropping them.
