Boot TS - Boot Sequence Is Non-Standard

Explanation: Your PC is currently set up to use a non-standard boot sequence. Some systems will let you select a large variety of possible boot devices and sequences, in addition to the standard floppy disk drive and hard drive.

Diagnosis: For simplicity I only consider the most common sequences: floppy disk and then IDE/ATA hard disk, and vice-versa. I have not included a walkthrough for booting from these other devices.

Recommendations:

  • You can extrapolate on the troubleshooting procedure when other devices are involved if you wish; be careful.
  • If you are having boot problems, you should consider temporarily changing the boot sequence to boot from the floppy disk or hard disk first (unless of course it is specifically booting from this other device that you are trying to diagnose.) Using a simpler, more standard configuration will make troubleshooting easier.
  • If the system will boot the floppy disk and IDE/ATA hard disk and not this other device (SCSI hard disk, CD-ROM, etc.) then I would recommend that you troubleshoot that device itself since that is probably where the problem lies.
