Boot TS - Memory Test Completes

Explanation: The system was successful in counting up the system memory.

Diagnosis: The memory is probably fine, as long as all of it is being recognized.

Recommendation:

  • Check the total memory count. Did the system count up the right amount of memory? You are looking to see if the count is off by a large amount, usually megabytes. If the count is off by 128 KB or 384 KB, this is normal; if you see for example 32,384 KB on a system with 32 MB of memory, that is perfectly fine, since the missing 384 KB is the RAM in the upper memory area. If you have a system with 32 MB and the system only counts up to 16,000 KB, then that is a different story. If the memory count is signficantly off, troubleshoot this here.
  • Continue with the next step in the boot process, which is for the BIOS to seek for any floppy disks and test them. You will know that this is happening because the heads on each drive will move back and forth once and the drive light will come on when this happens. Note that the system will not actually try to boot from the floppy drive at this time, just test it to see if it is there. Does the BIOS seek the floppy drives?
