Quick Access to Boot Process Troubleshooting
The PC is dead, there is no power at all. External
power has not been verified. Power protection devices have not been checked.
The PC has no power, external power has been
checked and is OK, power protection device may still be a problem
The PC has no power, external power and
power protection devices are OK, power cord and power supply settings have not been
checked
The PC has no power and all external power problems
and settings have been checked
The system has power but there is no video; the
monitor has not been checked
There is no video and no
sound; the monitor and speaker are known to work
There is no video but a loud buzzing,
ringing or rasping is heard from the PC speaker
There is no video produced on the
screen but a beep code is heard
The system never displays the video BIOS
message
The BIOS startup screen
appears but the system hangs before the memory test and without an error message
The boot stops in the
middle of the memory test
The memory test
completed, but the system stops without seeking the floppy disks
The system is
saying it cannot find IDE devices that it has been told to autodetect

stops booting while trying to identify Plug and Play devices

system displays the system configuration summary but then stops the boot process without
trying to boot either the hard disk or floppy disk drive

system is supposed to be booting the floppy drive but it doesn't even try to boot it
and activates the hard disk instead
