The answer often depends on what your situation is, and in particular, how long it has been since the product was purchased. A PC that was purchased new last week and has suddenly stopped booting at all should be treated quite differently from one that stopped working after five years. There are also issues to consider in deciding whether you want to bother with the repair of some components. In many cases, it simply is not worth it.
