Icon Legend

Much the way many technical reference books do, I employ icons to attract attention to information that is important or that needs somehow to be differentiated from the other text in a particular section. There are three icons used routinely throughout this site:

Warning: A "heads up" that the instructions that precede or follow the warning may be risky or complicated, or that there is something important about the subject that bears drawing special attention to it. You should carefully read any warnings that you encounter on the site.

Note: An explanation, clarification, or exception to something else written in the area. Sort of a "side bar" to the discussion in some way.

Tip: A little hint or trick of the trade that may help you in performing some of the techniques described in the section, or that may make your life easier in some manner. I haven't been too consistent in how I have used this icon (in part because there are so many tips on the site that are just woven into the content of each section).
