Keyboard Software Issues

Keyboards are of course hardware devices, but there is little hardware in the PC that does not interface directly with the operating system or other software. Software features control certain aspects of how the keyboard works, and it's useful to understand what these are, so I decided to discuss these matters here.

In this section I take a look at various issues related to software control and operation of the keyboard. This includes a discussion of DOS keyboard controls, a look at Windows keyboard layouts and multiple language support, and also the "typematic" feature. I then discuss accessibility features, and talk about BIOS controls and ASCII code generation.
