[ The PC Guide | Systems and Components Reference Guide | The Processor | Processor Architecture and Operation ] Processor Performance Considering how important it is, the value of a processor is measured using surprisingly few parameters. Since most processors work in a similar fashion and have similar external characteristics (i.e., in terms of how a user would see them) the most important question becomes: "how fast does it run?" This is a very fair question to focus on, because while the internal details of how the processor works are interesting, what really counts to the computer user is the performance level of the processor in question. This section discusses processor performance issues, including processor benchmarking, the process of measuring CPU performance.
