Benefits of the Disk Edition
There are of course benefits to having The PC Guide available in disk form, which is
why so many people have asked about it. :^) The primary reasons why you might want to
consider the Disk Edition:
- Speed: Browsing the site from your hard disk (or even CD-ROM drive) is lightning
fast, much faster than using the site on the net. You will be able to load any of the
pages on the site in a few seconds, and jump between pages virtually instantaneously.
- Portability: If you have the CD-ROM version of the Disk Edition you can take it
with you from machine to machine. You can also take the download version from machine to
machine as long as you dont have it installed on multiple machines at once (unless
so licensed). See this page for licensing details.
- No Connection Required: You dont need to be connected to the
Internet to read the information on the site. This means no hassle of establishing a
connection when you want to check something, no dependence on your internet service
provider being "up" at the time you need them to be, and no tying up your phone
line when you want to read.
- No On-Line Charges: Many people pay by the hour to use the Internet, and of
course you will not incur these charges for the Disk Edition (which can really add up).
- No Banner Advertisements: Some people dont like banner ads. There
arent any in the Disk Edition.
- Searchable and Printable PDF Version: The Disk Edition includes a version
of the site in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format for easier searching and printing of the
material, and a copy of the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Extras: The Disk Edition includes some "extras" that most people will
find very useful.
- You Support The PC Guide: Its really that simple: purchasing the
Disk Edition supports the site and encourages me to maintain it and add new content to it.
