[ The PC Guide | The PC Buyer's Guide | Purchasing PCs and Components ] Vendor and Order Problems and Solutions One of the main goals of The PC Buyer's Guide is to help you select an honest, trustworthy vendor that will treat you with respect and make your buying experience a pleasurable one. The advice that I provide on dealing with your order is likewise intended to reduce the chances of troubles with it. Most vendors and manufacturers are honest and do care about their customers (if for no other reason than to keep them as customers). Unfortunately, there are some bad apples out there, and even with good vendors there are occasional difficulties that need to be resolved. This section discusses the problems that most frequently occur when placing orders, especially with online or mail order companies. Problems can occur due to miscommunication, inefficiencies within the vendor, or in rare cases, outright fraud. The problems are bad enough, but many customers make matters worse by not dealing with them in an appropriate manner. More often than not, customers put up with mistreatment when they don't have to. My objective here is to help you avoid becoming a "victim" by informing you of the more common issues that customers face and provide you with help in correcting them. In this section I first discuss common problems that occur with vendors and orders. Then I provide you with some tools to help you resolve them. This includes a discussion of ideas to help you resolve problems constructively with the vendor, as well as methods for dealing with abusive or deceptive vendors: if, despite your research efforts, you are unfortunate enough to select a "bad apple".
