Software Issues in PC Specification

The final area that I want to cover in this discussion of issues relevant to specifying a new PC is software. This Buyer's Guide is primarily focused around buying hardware, but software can have an important impact on how you buy your PC. I already covered the impact of software on hardware requirements; in a similar manner, software issues can have an impact on the hardware you select, in a variety of ways.

In this section I take a brief look at some important PC design and specification issues that are related to software. This includes a discussion of operating systems and matching the operating system to both your software and your hardware, a list of some essential software for your PC, and finally, a discussion of issues related to software that comes bundled with new PC packages.
