[ The PC Guide | Articles and Editorials | Choosing Your Motherboard ] Establish Your Requirements Before looking for a motherboard, you should know what kind of system you want to build (or upgrade to.) Gaming systems have much different requirements than pure business systems. You should already have an idea of what CPU and memory you will be using, how much memory you will be using, what devices you will be supporting now (and in the foreseeable future,) and whether you will be using an existing case or purchasing a new one. More importantly, you should have an idea of how much money you have to spend for your project, and how much of it is available for the motherboard. The answers to these questions will determine what capabilities the motherboard will need to have, what case it needs to fit in, and what price range you should look at.
